Children and Pets
Children of pre-school age are best advised to wait until they are older before being given rabbits. Young children can upset and exhaust rabbits by bad or persistent handling of them. Even older children should not be put in charge of caring for rabbits unless they fully understand the animals’ daily needs and you are sure that they will not soon tire of their pets. It takes a lot of time and patience to ensure that cats, dogs and rabbits get on peaceably together; it is more difficult when a rabbit is brought into the already established territory of a cat or dog. Jealousy will out! However, peaceful coexistence can be achieved.
Rabbits and guinea-pigs should not be housed together they have different diets, or if a rabbit, particularly a buck, is a stroppy, jealous character, the guinea-pig can get literally squashed or stamped to death.
