How Many Rabbits And What Sex?

Do you want one or two rabbits? It is not cruel to keep one rabbit alone. They are normally completely happy provided that they get regular human attention. However, as with other species, I think it is best if you can keep a pair. If you decide on such a duo, try to obtain litter mates or, at least animals of the same age. If the pair consists of a male and a female and you are not prepared to cope correctly, and repeatedly, with the patter of tiny rabbit feet, then it is best to have the buck neutered. Such non-reproductive pairs are, in my view ideal for most pet owners.

Two buck rabbits will fight after they attain sexual maturity at about four months of age; these scraps can end in serious wounding. Two does, particularly if they come from the same litter, will live harmoniously together all their lives.

If you want a house rabbit, a doe is best, males begin spraying urine, rather like tom cats, after sexual maturity unless neutered.
